At work in regional costume
The photographer Adriaan Gerard van Agtmaal (1887-1960) is mainly known for his photos of monuments, city and village scenes, landscapes and rural life. His work featured on postcards and promotional material for the Dutch Tourist Information Office. He was particularly productive between the two world wars. His son J.G. van Agtmaal (1911-1990) followed in his footsteps and also became a photographer. Despite the fact that regional costumes were being worn less and less, Van Agtmaal managed to photograph people dressed in their regional costume in most parts of the country. The photos below show people at work in their regional costumes.
